Daniel Ooi’s Portrait

Born in Kangar, Perlis, Daniel Ooi has been dabbling in photography for more than 18 years. His love for photography led him to work part time at a colour lab back home when he was only 15. It is then that he gained more knowledge in printing, developing films and proper shooting methods.

After graduating from high school, he jumped into a full-time job at a bridal house in Penang as an assistant photographer. Two year later, he was employed at a bridal house in Johor and by 2010, he opened his own studio, Daniel Ooi Fine Art Gallery.

Daniel honed his skills in both digital and film photography, winning him many international accolades, making him a sought after talent. He now conducts photography classes and trainings in various organisations. He’s also an appointed State Liaison of the NIKON Club Malaysia as well as a WPPM Johore Ambassador. He has also been honoured with the prestigious Licentiate from the Masters Photographers Association, UK.

Conceptual Portrait Photography, Batik Theme

Here is a set artworks we create for our self, using “Batik” as the theme and we create a fine art portrait, whole set artworks we taken by Nikon D800 + Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR2. Hope you guys enjoy. 😀
“Batik (Javanese pronunciation: [ˈbateʔ]; Indonesian: [ˈbatɪk]) is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique. Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting (IPA: [ʈ͡ʂantiŋ], also spelled tjanting), or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap (IPA: [ʈ͡ʂap], also spelled tjap). The applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to colour selectively by soaking the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colours are desired.

A tradition of making batik is found in various countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Nigeria; the batik of Indonesia, however, is the best-known. Indonesian batik made in the island of Java has a long history of acculturation, with diverse patterns influenced by a variety of cultures, and is the most developed in terms of pattern, technique, and the quality of workmanship.” from Wikipedia
